Pick the right node
Section titled “Pick the right node”- Merge Pair items from two lists that share a value. Example Contacts from a sheet plus their orders, matched on email.
- Funnel Continue as soon as any one branch reaches it. Example Three triggers sharing the same steps.
- Compare Datasets Sort two versions of a list into new, gone, same and changed. Example Yesterday's prices against today's.
How Merge pairs items
Section titled “How Merge pairs items”Merge has two inputs and waits for both. Each Match Key compares a field on the first input with a field on the second, for example email Is Equal To email. With no match keys, every item of the first input pairs with every item of the second.
Mode decides what happens to items without a partner:
| Mode | Output |
|---|---|
| Inner Join | Only the matched pairs |
| Left Join | Every item of the first input, merged with its matches when it has any |
| Right Join | Every item of the second input, merged with its matches when it has any |
When both items have a field with the same name and different values, the result keeps both, renamed left-<field> and right-<field>.
You’ll notice this when…
Section titled “You’ll notice this when…”Merge outputs nothing
No pair matched (check that both fields hold the same text, without extra spaces or different capitals), or one branch didn’t run. Try Left Join to see the first input’s items even without matches.
Merge outputs far more items than you sent in
There are no match keys, or the key isn’t unique, so items pair with many partners. Add a match key on a field that identifies each record, such as id or url.
The step after several branches waits for all of them
That’s the default for any step. Use Funnel when the first branch to arrive is enough.
