Breaking changes & migration

What changed in behaviour between AWFlow versions, and what to do about it. Releases with nothing to act on say so.

AWFlow updates itself, and existing workflows keep working through every release listed here: nothing was removed without an automatic upgrade. This page lists the changes in behaviour you may notice, and what to do about them. For everything else in a release, read its release notes.

Release notes

  • Three memory nodes became one. Local Memory, Persistent Chat Memory and Window Buffer Memory are replaced by Chat Memory. Existing workflows keep running and are upgraded to Chat Memory the next time you save them. Nothing to do; open and save a workflow if you want it on the new node now.
  • Chat memories is now Memory. The page moved to Memory; old links redirect.
  • Marketplace access is checked on your device. An installed workflow that needs access its author did not declare now asks for it at run time instead of failing. Approve the prompt the first time you run it.
  • Workflow conversation picks are cleared on share. A conversation picked in Chat Memory is cleared when a workflow is published or shared. Installers pick their own.

Release notes

  • Agent tools are locked by what they do. Workflow and MCP tools are now approved by their capability rather than their name, so an agent may ask you again the first time it uses a tool. See Action approval.
  • Knowledge base account backups are off for now. Use .awkb export to keep a copy.

Release notes

  • A failed node stops only its own branch, and a node with no output no longer stops the run. If a workflow relied on a failure ending the whole run, add a Stop and Error node on that branch. See Error handling.
  • The Code node reads upstream data as input, including fan-in, and Python runs in an isolated worker per run, so nothing carries over between runs. If a Code node behaves differently after the update, read upstream data from input. See Code node.
  • Only the last 100 executions per workflow are kept locally. Older runs are removed automatically.
  • Imported workflows are untrusted until you review them. See Import and export.
  • Publishing needs narration. The publish wizard requires the Explain the steps step.
  • Minimum extension version. Workflows can declare one, and installing is blocked on older versions. Update the extension when asked.

Release notes

  • Connections use OAuth with PKCE. The client secret is no longer required. If an existing connection stops working, reconnect it from Connections.
  • Per-run consent. An installed or shared workflow asks before it acts and can only do what it declares up front. See Permissions and security.
  • New cloud service. Account data moved to a new AWFlow cloud service. Nothing to do; local mode is unchanged.

Release notes

  • Plan limits. Workflows have a node limit per plan, and uploaded text has a size limit. Split large workflows if you hit one. See Rate limits.
